We believe that the power of photography extends beyond mere documentation of the climate crisis. It is also an expression of dissent, a research methodology, a resistance mechanism, an embodiment of ecological grief, an exaltation in the feeble remains of the natural world.

Flare aims to harness these political and social potencies of photography as our planet undergoes irrevocable damage. To support our scientific allies, we invite contributors to explicate the climate crisis through artistic, photographic practices. We encourage submissions that explore deeply personal climate narratives or previously-undocumented consequences of the climate crisis. We also advise contributors to scrutinize the potential ecological harm imposed by photographic methods, both historically and today.
